Pack The Suitcases’ 2023 travel roundup

Pack The Suitcases' 2023 travel roundup | PACKTHESUITCASES

It’s been a while but I’m back once again, like the renegade master, with my travel roundup for 2023. This is my usual annual overview of where I went in the year, including all my travel-related highs and lows. Normally I publish it in December so it’s very late. This is due to recent trauma in my life, which I’ll explain later.

I’ve been doing these yearly roundups since I launched Pack The Suitcases in 2016. They serve as a kind of personal reminder of the years and are more for me than anything else, seeing as they’re of no interest to most people. So, if you’re reading this, thanks for sticking with me.

In 2023, regular readers will know that I was on a 12-month career break (aka sabbatical). This went from April 2022 to April 2023. So the first bit of this calendar year involved that, and then I was back to work and reality. I still fitted in a fair amount of trips until disaster struck, though.

Pour yourself a cuppa, and enjoy a read about my rather up-and-down 2023…

Pack The Suitcases’ 2022 travel roundup

Welcome to my yearly travel roundup, an overview of where I’ve been this year and all the travel-related highs and lows. Regular readers will know that 2022 has been my most exciting year of travel ever because I’m on a 12-month career break (also called a sabbatical) and have been full-time travelling since 1 April. So this is going to be a VERY long roundup I’m afraid. But hopefully an interesting one.

Since I launched Pack The Suitcases in 2016, I’ve been doing these yearly roundups, in which I try to sum up the ‘best of’ and ‘worst of’ (ahem, Spain) for all my previous year’s travel, and it’s become a tradition I can’t drop. They serve as a kind of personal reminder and are more for me than anything else, seeing as they’re of no interest to most people. So, if you’re reading this, thanks for sticking with me!

Pour yourself a mulled wine or a hot chocolate, and enjoy a read about my travel-tastic 2022. I also touch on what my plans are for the rest of my career break going into 2023…

Pack The Suitcases’ 2021 travel roundup

Happy new year! I can’t quite believe we’ve got through another year of all this. Overall, 2021 was less hideous than 2020 but still pretty rubbish. And so this roundup of everywhere I went is obviously going to be quite short…

I’m typing this sat on the sofa in my pyjamas, nursing a cup of tea while my other half self-isolates upstairs after a delightful Christmas present of a positive PCR. I think that about sums the state of 2021 up. But since 2016, I’ve been doing these yearly roundups, in which I try to sum up the ‘best of’ and ‘worst of’ for all my previous year’s travel, and it’s become a tradition I can’t drop. They serve as a kind of personal reminder and are more for me than anything else, seeing as they’re of no interest to most people.

So, if you’re reading this, you’re probably one of my regular readers and I love you for sticking with me! Pour the dregs of your New Year’s Eve bubbly and enjoy a read about my rather limited travel highs and lows in 2021. They range from sitting next to the worst passenger in the world on a flight home to discovering a new bit of Scotland to explore. I also touch on my massive plans for 2022 (everything crossed)…

Pack The Suitcases’ (pathetic) 2020 travel roundup

Travel roundup 2020 | PACK THE SUITCASES

Happy new year! Despite what 2020 has thrown at us all, I’m sticking with my yearly tradition of doing a travel roundup of everywhere I went in the last year. Yes, I appreciate the irony in trying to write anything about travel in 2020, a year when we hardly left our homes. But I’m going to give it a go anyway.

In these yearly roundups, I try to sum up the ‘best of’ and ‘worst of’ for all my previous year’s travel. They serve as a kind of personal reminder and are more for me than anything else. But I’ve got myself into doing them as a tradition now. Maybe they’re mildly useful for anyone wanting to know where I recommend. Or don’t recommend. As you’ve probably deduced, there’s very little in this 2020-based one. But I’ve shared some of my thoughts on the little travel I managed this year and also some musings on the state of travel blogging and how it’s been affected by the pandemic.

So, pour the dregs of your New Year’s Eve bubbly and have a read about my pathetic ‘travels’ in 2020: the least travelly year of my adult life. Let me know in the comments how you’ve survived 2020 and what travel plans you’re hoping to do in 2021.

Pack The Suitcases’ 2019 travel roundup

Pack The Suitcases’ 2019 travel roundup | PACK THE SUITCASES

Happy belated new year! Here’s my equally belated 2019 travel roundup. Yes, it’s the post no one has been waiting for.

Every January since I started blogging here on Pack The Suitcases, I’ve dished out the ‘best of’ and ‘worst of’ for all the previous year’s travel, to serve as a kind of personal reminder and a bit of amusement (usually failing at the latter) for my readers.

Only about three people read these roundups, they earn me £0, and they die a death after a day, never to be seen again. No one is ever going to Google ‘I wonder what countries that blogger went to in 2019 and her banal thoughts on them’. But I’ve got myself into doing these posts as a tradition now. I can’t stop. Soz.

So here’s the 2019 one. To be fair, it might give you some ideas about where to go (and where to avoid?) for 2020…

Pack The Suitcases’ 2018 travel roundup

Happy new year!

This is becoming a bit of a tradition. Every new year since I started Pack The Suitcases, I’ve dished out the ‘best of’ and ‘worst of’ for all that year’s travel.

Precisely no one reads it because who cares? I know you all just want lists of places to eat for whatever city break you’re going to do. But when did no one listening/reading my stuff ever stop me…?! So I’m doing it again for 2018.

To be fair, this might give you some ideas about where to go (and where to avoid?) for 2019…
